Mother’s Day gives us the chance to celebrate the moms, mothers-to-be, and maternal figures in our lives. We can learn a lot from these women in our lives about how to care; their love gives us a glimpse of the love God has for us. We’ve also put together an inspiration guide with something for everyone this weekend, from church services to a podcast about choosing to believe. Let’s dive in!

Celebrate “Love Without Limits” at our Mother’s Day services

This Sunday, we celebrate Mother’s Day with the theme “Love Without Limits” at all of our church services around the Bay Area.

The limitless love of mothers is brought up often in the Bible. God conveys his love for us by comparing it to that of a mother:

“Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!”

Isaiah 49:15 NLT

The apostle Paul expressed his love for the Thessalonian church through the visual of a mother caring for her kids:

As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children. [8] We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.

1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 NLT

The Bible makes it clear that we can learn a lot from mothers about how deep God’s love is. Just like children with mothers, we can look to God to learn how to love without limits:

Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.

At all of our services across our nine campuses this weekend, we will take time to reflect on the limitlessness of God’s love, and how we can learn to love like him. We will also have some fun surprises and festivities at each of our services to celebrate the day together—like gifts for the moms and special refreshments for everyone.

Celebrate the vital role of women’s ministry

Mother’s Day also gives us an opportunity to reflect on the broader impact of faithful women in all stages of life who love, serve, and minister to others. 

Our Lead Women’s Ministry Leader, Gail Ewell, wrote about the importance of women’s ministry in an article in RELEVANT magazine titled “Women Are Most Likely to Leave the Church. How Can We Fix That?” In this article, she addressed the growing number of Gen-Z women who are “de-churching” themselves, choosing no longer to classify themselves under a specific religion. 

“Women are not just a part of Christian history,” wrote Gail. “They are vital to its future.”

Scripture teaches us that women played incredible roles in history and in building the church. They supported and cared for the needs of Jesus and his followers and remained by his side throughout his life, death, and resurrection.

At the BACC, we seek to build on the teachings of the Bible to create an environment where women are recognized for their strengths and their contributions are not only supported but celebrated. Our strong women’s ministry plays a vital role in the spiritual formation of women of all ages, but it’s especially important in reaching young women and helping them live out their purpose.

So on this Mother’s Day weekend, we celebrate not only our physical mothers but also our spiritual mothers—the women who have made a difference in our lives because they decided to love, serve, and believe in us.

“Because She Believed”: Immerse yourself in the story of Mary

For an extra dose of inspiration this weekend, take time to listen to “Because She Believed,” a narrative podcast from Deep Spirituality about Mary, the mother of Jesus. 

For obvious reasons, this story is often told around Christmastime, but we think it is much-needed all year round and especially relevant on a weekend when we celebrate mothers.

Because she believed, this ordinary young woman was able to travel bravely into the unseen and played perhaps one of the most significant roles imaginable in God’s plan. Because she believed, Jesus was able to live a life that brought light to the world. Because she believed, the world was changed for the better.
