A great number of people, including myself,  love video games or movies, especially those with the classic plot of the hero overcoming an evil or saving the planet from impending doom.  The reason why we can be so enthralled with these stories is because we all have a desire to do something great, and even more, to be someone great.

The Creators of the Halo Franchise and Call of Duty have teamed up to make the MMO  game entitled Destiny, coming out in Fall ‘14.  The premise of the story is to “Defend the last safe City on Earth. Defeat our enemies. Explore ancient ruins of our solar system.  Discover all that we have lost.  Become Legend.”

The Latest Call of Duty game made over $1 billion on its first day release according to Forbes Magazine.  And most people would speculate that it success is due to all the marketing and “hype” around the series.  I think we are drawn to these games for more reasons than their  entertainment value or “replay-ability”.  I believe that beyond all the countless-mind numbing hours, spent playing these games, is a calling, deep down inside of us to fulfill our destiny!

CHOSEN: A Unique Destiny.

God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.  Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.  For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:8-10

We have all been chosen by God, and the sacrifices he has made for us are not anything we deserve or can take credit for.  This can be a disappointment for many of us who are used to performing in school for a grade or at work for a raise.  The amazing thing about God  is that he created everyone of us, specifically, uniquely, and masterfully to do the good things that he planned for us to do. To fulfill our destiny!

DEFEND, DEFEAT, EXPLORE, DISCOVER

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son…..And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified….Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Romans 8:28-37

God actually works on our behalf, and calls us to be great.  He predestined us to be great by allowing us to share in his glory.  This is all possible because of Jesus. And Jesus was no couch potato, he actually fulfilled God’s destiny for his life and became a real legend by actually saving the world.  His example of sacrifice and mercy is inspiring and enables us to conquer any situation or circumstance and to overcome so we might actually impact people’s lives.

BECOME A LEGEND

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

John 14:12-14

Many people claim to believe in Jesus, but when we believe in what Jesus teaches us in the Bible and actually follow it, then he lives with us and fights for us, enabling us to “do even greater things” than we could ever do on our own.  Your destiny is waiting for you.  Study the Bible and discover who Jesus really is by following what he said, and in doing so, you will become who you are truly meant to be.
