Above the Rim: Week 2 Recap

Last Sunday, there was some great basketball being played at San Mateo High School as we saw week 2 of our “Above the Rim” hoop league. In case you missed it. Here’s a taste of what went down…

Game Recaps:

Santa Clara’s run and gun offense got them the lead over San Francisco early in the game. After getting that lead, they never let it go. They were led by DeAngelo Jackson who dominated with 33 points.

Final score:  Santa Clara- 70 San Francisco- 56

San Mateo and CC north played a highly competitive game. Both teams had periods of great momentum and fought hard. In the end, San Mateo’s hard-driving, aggressive defense enabled them to create the turnovers they needed to hold the lead.

Final score:  San Mateo- 79 CC North- 72

In the most dramatic game of the week, CC south got the lead over Alameda early on, but started to cool off in the second half as Alameda rallied, led by Ade Henderson and Josh Simms. With 25 seconds on the clock, the game was tied at 64; Alameda had the ball. Thanks to some great defense, CC south got a key rebound and scored with two seconds on the clock.

Final score: CC South- 66 Alameda- 64

As Contra Costa started to rally, Coach Nick Straw (San Mateo) inspired his team to finish strong.
