*Some call it a quiet time. We call it a Vision Quest. This is a simple Bible study to help you along your journey of discovering God’s purpose for your life.

With or Without God

The Lord was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned.

Genesis 39:2-3

We don’t know whether Joseph complained or not, but what we do know is that God was with him. When God is with you, you will be successful in whatever you do.

Either we are with God or we are not with God. We can tell by looking at our lives.  When God is with you, you are unshakeable.

Is God with you today? Do other people see God in your life?

What sin do you need to deal with in order for God to be close to you?

The only thing keeps us away from God is sin

Righteousness: Doing What Is Right Regardless of How You Feel

But Joseph refused. “Look,” he told her, “my master trusts me with everything in his entire household.  No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.”

Genesis 39:8-9

God hates sin and can’t be around it. When we do what is right, God blesses us.

It’s so easy to do whatever our feelings lead us to do. Whether it be fear, discouragement, sadness, anger or happiness, it is so easy for us to allow our actions to follow these emotions. When we do that, we don’t always do the right thing. This is the step to become unshakeable.

What are some things I can do to help me be righteous?

Find a scripture that pushes you to pray and express your emotions so you can see God clearly. Carry it around. Whenever you feel tempted and know that what you are about to do is wrong, read it.

Your View of God Matters

“It is beyond my power to do this,” Joseph replied. “But God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.”

Genesis 41:16

On the third day Joseph said to them, “I am a God-fearing man. If you do as I say, you will live.

Genesis 42:18

God’s power is beyond what we can imagine.

In day to day life, we don’t always give God the credit that he deserves. When good things happen, we don’t always thank him…when bad things happen, he becomes the easy target for our blame. When we surrender and give God the credit and control, we become unshakable because we know we can trust him to take care of us.

Do I respect God the way he deserves? If not, how can I change that?

Write down every single thought you have about God, then read through some Psalms to learn more about who God is and compare your notes. Change your view of God to match up with the way that the Bible describes him.

God’s Intentions Always Lead To Good

But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.

Genesis 50:19-20

God is always good, even when life seems everything but.

We naturally want comfort. We want our lives to be good and easy because we are all selfish to some extent. There is nothing wrong with wanting to feel comfortable, but if we rely on material things to give us that comfort, we are never gonna be satisfied. We can be happy and satisfied by helping others…just as God intended.

Who can you help today?

Take some time to think and become aware of the needs of those around you.

Challenges:

Pray away guilt, anxiety, discouragement, emotions, wants and desires -Be specific, use an emotions chart or emotions journal – take 5 min. to write out what you’re feeling.

Pray with focus. Find a cool spot, away from distractions to pray – take a friend with you and help each other pray

Pray throughout the day – on your way to a class, or to the bathroom – take breaks and remember to pray – even if it’s just 1 min.

Pray through the thought you have about God. Pray for other people in your life.
