Defining Moments

The month of March brings with it many exciting things every year. It is the month spring begins, it is Women’s History Month, and for us at the BACC, it is when we hold our annual Girls’ Night Out events.

I have come as a Light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer wander in the darkness.

John 12:46 TLB

Jesus came to shine a light for us in the darkest of times, and as we follow his example we can be that light in others’ lives too. Girls’ Night Out is an evening that brings light to countless women throughout the Bay Area every year. In fact, it has become part of the fabric of our community. Women of every age and every walk of life gather together for great conversations, food, friendships, and of course great lessons from the Bible.

We are so grateful for how the women’s ministry in our church has risen to meet the moment by shining a light for those around them not only at this event but all year long.

Two events already took place last weekend, with more to come this week and next. Today we want to build your faith with a few of the stories that came from these two great events.

Meeting the moment with a unique opportunity for young women

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.

Ephesians 3:16 NLT

Last Saturday, young women from all over the Bay Area kicked off our series with a Teen and Campus Girls’ Night Out!

From a moving video about how God pursues us no matter how far gone we feel, to vulnerable and powerful sharing by high school student, to an inspirational message from Gail Ewell, the night inspired those who came to feel like they could share their lives freely. Afterwards, we heard so many stories of women going out for dinner and not only opening up about the anxiety and pressure in their lives but also making the choice to meet their challenges with faith by studying the Bible to understand God.

As one woman said, “It is a rare and unique opportunity to gather so many young women in one spot to address the specific issues that they face in their lives. This kind of investment equips young women to become leaders and influencers on their high school and college campuses.”

Meeting the moment in San Francisco

San Francisco also hosted their Girls’ Night Out this past Saturday. Many of the women who came remarked that they were amazed by the event, the vulnerability of the speakers and sharers, and that the lesson spoke to their exact needs. Old and new friends alike went out afterward for a much needed night out to relax, talk, and even enjoy some karaoke.

We look forward to Girls’ Night Out this coming weekend in Palo Alto, Santa Clara, and Contra Costa. Then, to close things out on April 1, Alameda will host the final Girls’ Night Out. But this is just the beginning. The ‘Defining Moments’ of friendship and faith that start at events like these carry on far into the future, continuing to bring light to those looking for a way out of darkness. We can’t wait to see what God has in store in the weeks and months to come!

Till next time,
