Bible Study About Your View of God: Is It Intimate or Impersonal?

1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely…
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 139:1-4,11-13

1. Do you believe that God is a personal God?

2. Do you believe that God is interested in all the intricate details of your life?

3. God sees everything and He wants to be intimately involved in every aspect of your life, do you believe this?

I have sought your face with all my heart;
be gracious to me according to your promise.

Psalm 119:58

1. Do you seek God’s face with all your heart?

2. Do you view God as a friend or do you see Him as a stranger?

3. Are you seeking intimacy with God or just what you can get from His hand?

¹ I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
² Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.

Psalm 116:1-2

1. Do you believe that God listens to you when you speak to Him?

2. Are you willing to speak to God?

Record my misery;
list my tears on your scroll—
are they not in your record?

Psalm 56:8 

1. God keeps track of all our hurts and all our tears.

2. Do you tell God your hurts, do you cry to Him?

The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will not fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.

Psalm 37:23 (NLT)

1. God is comforting; He guides and holds us by the hand.
