Are you overcoming the road blocks in your life that are keeping you from growing?

It takes inner strength to change and grow spiritually.

Inner Strength Comes From God

19 The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]!
Habakkuk 3:19 AMP

Inner strength comes from God.  When you are stuck in your faith he gives you the strength to make spiritual progress.

What do you try to draw your strength from other than God? Your talents, people’s approval, being better than others?

What in your life have you been stuck in or at a standstill? When you get your inner strength from God you have the power to overcome anything.

 How do you handle pressure?

10 If you fail under pressure,
your strength is too small.
Proverbs 24:10 NLT

Pressure is a part of life; it’s how we grow. How are you handling the pressures of your life?

Do you quit, fall apart, blame others, avoid, escape, or get angry under pressure? We quit under pressure because our strength is too small. That is why we need to get our strength from God.

 Building Inner Strength

Alone with God

22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.
Genesis 32:22-24 NIV
Jacob was about to face his brother Esau who was threatening to kill him for stealing his birthright. When Jacob was under pressure he decided to seek God for strength.

What distractions do you need to remove in order to get alone with God?

If you get alone with God, what are you afraid you will learn about your heart?

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV

Don’t Let Go

25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”
But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
Genesis 32:25-26 NIV

When difficult things happen in your life, is God the first thing you let go of?

Inner strength comes when you hold onto God. Jacob was focused on getting God’s blessing/approval so he didn’t let go of God.

Pray and decide to believe that holding onto God can give you the strength to overcome anything.

 The Power to Overcome

27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”
“Jacob,” he answered.
28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
Genesis 32:27-28 NIV

The power to overcome comes from your times with God. God makes you a fighter and an overcomer!

What road blocks in your life must you overcome that are keeping you from growing and changing?

What from your past must you overcome so you are able to move forward and be free?

How do you build inner strength? Get alone with God and don’t let go!
