This study is to teach us how to get satisfied by God. Many of us look for validation, security and satisfaction from people, achievements or success. These pursuits leave us feeling weak, empty and inadequate. Walking with God helps us develop the internal strength to live a happy, meaningful and satisfied life.

And, of course, it is very good if a man has received wealth from the Lord and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and to accept your lot in life—that is indeed a gift from God. The person who does that will not need to look back with sorrow on his past, for God gives him joy.

Ecclesiastes 5:19-20 (TLB)

Where do you go for satisfaction?

Drink this water, and your thirst is quenched only for a moment. You must return to this well again and again. I offer water that will become a wellspring within you that gives life throughout eternity. You will never be thirsty again.

John 4: 13-14 (The Voice)

He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water.

John 7:38 (AMP)

Can you imagine being completely satisfied? How would you feel? Imagine being satisfied in your relationships and satisfied in your life. When we pursue God and walking with Him, he will satisfy us. Too many times, we are looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places.

Jesus promises that if we walk with Him, we will never thirst! We will have the inner strength and security that comes from God to keep us happy and satisfied.

Today, if you are feeling dissatisfied and discontented, consider where you have been going for hope and satisfaction. Often the very things we go to for fulfillment leave us more thirsty and empty.

Learn a new way of thinking

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

Jesus helps us understand that even if we have challenging circumstances and many responsibilities, we can still have a rich and restful life.

Often, it is easy to look for momentary escapes from our lives to find rest but they never last and leave us more weary and burdened.

The first step to living a satisfied life is making the decision to go to God for strength. Jesus does not promise us a burden free life but he promises to teach us how to find rest for our souls as we live our lives.

  • What are the consequences of chasing these things for strength? Jeremiah 17:5-6 (AMP)
