Recently, we just celebrated Mother’s Day in our family and I noticed how thrilled Judy was over every little card, every thought expressed, every small gift, even a little CD with some meaningful songs given, she enjoyed! I was reminded that even the little things can have big impact. I know in our marriage, it’s the small things that we sometimes argue about or get hurt over.

We have argued over writing things down in the checkbook, moving furniture around, leaving doors open, lights on, where to put the car keys and so many more! As well, it’s the small things we do for each other or say to each other that communicate my heart and my love. A small kiss(or big one), a thoughtful card or flower, holding the door open, getting up from the couch to serve her when I see a need and giving her a Scripture to encourage her faith! Consider these Bible passages for further study as you work on being good at the small things.

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.”

Matthew 10:42

‘”Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities!'”

Luke 19:17

“He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. ‘I tell you the truth,’ he said, ‘this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.'”

Luke 21:2

“In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And the tongue is a flame of fire…”

James 3:5
