“‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.’”
Acts 2:17 NIV
Acts 2 tells us that when God pours out his Spirit on his people, he makes sure to raise up a generation of young leaders to do his work. Today, we are living in that promise as we invest in the incredible potential of Gen Z and Millennials.
These are the most digitally connected generations in history, reshaping culture with a passion for justice and inclusivity. Yet, they are also the loneliest and most anxious, searching for stability in a world that can often feel like chaos.
With all that is going on in the world, there is a clear desire for spirituality among young people, shown by a rise in church attendance among 18-24 year olds. Our executive minister, Russ Ewell, recently captured this in an article for Relevant Magazine, highlighting why raising up a new generation of spiritual leaders is not just critical for our church but for millions who will shape society in the years to come.
That’s why this year’s Special Contribution, which we gave on Sunday, is so important. It’s more than a financial offering; it’s a bold statement of faith and a tangible commitment to the future. It’s not just how we build our current communities and families, but how we invest in a new generation of leaders to fulfill God’s promise to their peers.
A glimpse of the future
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
2 Timothy 2:2 NIV
Our church isn’t just talking about reaching the next generation; we are actively empowering them to lead and be qualified to teach others. We are a church that invests in the spiritual leaders of today so they can become the leaders of tomorrow.
One big way we invest is through our summer scholar program, where we provide hands-on spiritual leadership training to young adults over the summer. This year, we trained 37 student scholars and four new ministry couples who are gaining the skills and spiritual fortitude needed to be the light in the darkness. These young leaders are developing a strong walk with God themselves and teaching others how to do the same.
Thank you for your giving
Remember this-a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. [7] You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” [8] And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NLT
Your generous giving makes investing in the future possible. So many of you have baked goods, made crafts, sold clothes, and even line-danced for Special Contribution. You have embodied the cheerfully giving heart that God loves, and we can’t wait to see the fruit God will bring because of it.
Together, we are not just building a church; we are building a legacy. We are answering the call to prepare the next generation to be a beacon of hope and to lead with a boldness that will truly change lives.
Thank you for being part of this vital mission.
