“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? [38] Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? [39] When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ [40] “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

Matthew 25:37-40 NLT

Jesus tells us that when we do good for those who need it most, it’s as if we are doing that good for him. In a world that often feels fractured, our church is constantly seeking ways to follow Jesus’s call to love and serve without limits. This pursuit of “doing good” is more than just a phrase for us; it’s the DNA of the Bay Area Christian Church (BACC). It’s why we’re so excited to share an incredible new conversation about a core part of who we are: building a ministry where every single family feels seen, valued, and welcomed.

This powerful discussion centers on the Spiritual Resource Ministry (SRM), our vital effort to support families and individuals with special needs. BACC Executive Minister Russ Ewell and Women’s Ministry Leader Gail Ewell sat down with the Nick Blevins Family Ministry Podcast to share the heart behind this ministry.

  • A mission to do good: Born out of the Ewells’ personal journey as parents of two sons with special needs, the Spiritual Resource Ministry (SRM) was created to tear down the barriers that once effectively locked families out of the church experience. At a time when many institutions—including schools and churches—were far behind in making accommodations, this ministry became a necessary platform to ensure that parents were no longer sidelined but could finally find support and attend services while their children flourished in a space designed for them.
  • A culture of belonging: SRM is a tangible way BACC lives out its mission “to make God known and to do good,” offering genuine compassion and support to families facing isolation and stress in the community.
  • Creative compassion: This heart of true inclusion is at the heart of our community building in other areas, too. Over the years, we have developed inclusive programs like E-Sports and E-Life to make it possible for every child and adult to truly believe they can be exceptional together.

The goal of SRM is to provide a place where parents can attend service and return to a happy child, replacing the ache of isolation with a deep sense of belonging. This commitment to radical inclusion isn’t just changing lives in our church; it’s shaping the way we all lead.

We encourage you to go deeper into this conversation with Russ and Gail. Be inspired to innovate, embrace humility, and think about how you can lead differently in your own family, friendships, and communities.
