Exceptional kids, opportunity for everyone.
Exceptional Children’s Ministry (E-Ministry) is a family of programs practicing inclusion for typical and special needs children, serving our community. Our E-Ministries include our E-Sports programs, and Spiritual Resource Ministry (SRM)
The main function of SRM is to reach out to the special needs community, offering parents and children the opportunity to attend church, which they may not have otherwise been able to do. It is an additional children’s ministry class with workers who have been trained to work with children with special needs. It has its own set of leaders and coordinators that are focused on this particular class. Also included in the class are neurotypically-developing buddies who themselves benefit from being in SRM.

Take a look at some selections from our blog that illustrate how we believe the Bible calls us to include those who it calls “indispensable” (1 Corinthians 12:22)

What are Spiritual Resource classes like?
Spiritual Resource Ministry (SRM) provides parents of children with special needs the ability to attend Sunday service while their child attends a unique class created just for them. In SRM classes, students participate in a creative and interactive Bible lesson and rotate through fun activity stations.
Each student has a teacher, so the teacher-student ratio is 1:1. There are also neurotypically developing buddies to provide a reverse mainstreaming experience. Both children benefit by being in the class. The class is made up of stations that address the developmental needs of each child that may not be found in the traditional children’s ministry classes. There’s a video station, motor station, and game station. The lesson and craft are geared to the developmental differences that children may have. The idea is for the class to fit the students’ needs, and not the other way around. In this way, children are able to learn about God in ways that suit their learning style.
Are teachers in Spiritual Resource classes trained to work with special needs kids?
Many of our teachers have a background in regular and special education, or are parents of a child with special needs. The teacher-student ratio in the class is 1:1 to ensure that every child’s needs are met.
Who can attend an SRM class?
Individuals who may need additional support outside of the children’s ministry classroom or who may require 1:1 attention can attend SRM classes.
