BACC Campus Ministry
“The Body is not made up of one part but of many…”
1 Corinthians 12:14
The Bay Area Christian Church’s campus ministry covers six major universities and twenty junior colleges. Our students come from many different walks of life, each with a unique personal story. Together we are a family dedicated to making an impact through community services.
At the Bay Area Christian Church our campus ministry is a unique team, always changing and always moving forward. If you are looking for just one word to capture the heart of our campus ministry, we would call ourselves dynamic.
We are a collective group of students from every school across the bay area–from Cal to Stanford to San Jose State University to the University of San Francisco –- each with a dream that God can develop in everyone of us something amazing. College for many students can be a time not only filled with dreams but fraught with pressure. We believe even outstanding students benefit from deep spiritual friendship to maximize their potential.
Better Together
While attending high school in Michigan, Nate Spaun ran track, got great grades and even graduated Valedictorian. Although Nate was extremely talented, he habitually did everything alone. The things he accomplished and the many successes he experienced did not cover up the loneliness he felt. Two years ago, Nate met David Motamed at UC Berkeley’s summer orientation and David introduced him to other college students who are members of the Bay Area Christian Church. They were ambitious students who did well in school, and had great friendships. For the first time, Nate realized that with close relationships, he could achieve much more than he could alone. This summer, Nate is working together with other college students as a summer intern for the Bay Area Christian Church to support both the y-ministry and the e-ministry.
Breaking New Ground
Jeremy Ross often struggled to believe that he could overcome the disappointment of a broken home and the hardships that come with living in an underprivileged area. However, after high school Jeremy was accepted to UC Berkeley where he played on the football team. There, he met a teammate, who took Jeremy under his wing. Jeremy made friends like Greg Yamamoto in the campus ministry who helped him be successful in school and on the football field.
When Jeremy graduated from UC Berkeley in Spring 2011, he became the first person in his family to graduate from college. Jeremy had great talent and potential but he needed the support of friends to help him achieve more than he ever thought possible.
Leadership
When Cassi Hoyt was 14 she was just like many teenage girls, insecure and afraid to be noticed. Growing up in an unstable home caused Cassi to retreat from close relationships and made her afraid to say what she really thought and felt.
In the Y-Ministry, older women who helped her overcome shyness and insecurity mentored Cassi. These women taught her to speak up, to live courageously and value close relationships.
Today, Cassi is an incoming junior transfer at UC Berkeley. Together with her friends, Cassi helped lead the first ever Y-Women’s day led only by college and high school students. Without the help of courageous women, Cassi never would have been able to overcome her fears and inspire other girls to see the impact they can make with their lives.
We at Bay Area Christian Church strive to be the family for those without one, the friend who never gives up, and the student on campus who won’t sacrifice his integrity to follow the crowd.
As 1 Corinthians 12:14 says, “The Body is not made up of one part but of many…” and we believe that through combining each of our individual talents, God enables us to be part of a purpose that TOGETHER is far beyond ourselves.
