The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

Psalm 145:18

One of the main ways we build a close relationship with God is through emotionally honest prayers where we are expressing our feelings to him. This scripture describes how God is close to us when we are honest with him.

Some areas of our lives can be difficult to pray honestly about, especially when they bring up negative emotions.

What areas of your life are more difficult for you to pray about? Why? Do you have a hard time expressing your feelings to God?

Write down the three biggest emotions you feel on a daily basis (anxiety, fear, insecurity, anger, disappointment, embarrassment, happiness, etc) and what causes you to feel those things.

You want me to be completely truthful, so teach me wisdom.

Psalm 51:6

God wants us to be completely truthful.

How do you feel about being completely truthful about your mistakes, guilt, desires, and feelings? Why?

Guilt can be one of the most difficult things to talk to God about, yet he wants us to be completely honest with everything. When we don’t deal with the things we feel guilty about, we distance ourselves from God.

Today, is there something you feel guilty about that you can be honest with God and others about?

Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you.

1 Peter 5:7

God wants us to give all our worries to him. He wants us to know that he cares about us, even the little details.

Do you believe that God cares about you? What have you been worried about lately?

Carrying around worry is like carrying around a 50 pound weight in a backpack all day. Giving all your worries to God is like taking the weight off one pound at a time until you feel lighter.

God met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears. Look at him; give him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from him.

Psalm 34:4-5

Our fear and anxiety can actually imprison us because no matter where we go or what we do, they follow us. God can actually free us from our fears and anxieties.

What fears and anxieties do you feel today?

Write them down and then talk to God about them.

Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!

Psalm 32:2

There is great joy that comes when we are completely honest.

How joyful would your friends and family say you are on a daily basis? What do you think this says about your honesty level?

Decide today to be honest with God and someone else so you can feel joy!

Challenge: Take some time to write down your fears, anxieties or anything you feel guilty about. Decide to be honest with someone and ask them to teach you how to pray to God about them and pray together.
